Keep in mind that the girls have just learned to compose less than two months ago, and that each composition had specific parameters, which made self-expression a bit more challenging.

I think the following examples are shining ones! Composition 1 are the first of the trimester. Composition 6 are the last/latest.

Course Description:
2x weekly, trimester 2 (West) trimester 3 (East)

7th Grade Music students are afforded the opportunity composing short pieces for performance and listening in the classroom.  Because musical composition requires knowledge of music theory, practice, instrumentation, voicing, reading, notating, and analysis, these will all be discussed. The craft of composition is designed to foster within the student a deeper understanding (and thus, a deeper appreciation) for music.  Conversational Solfege, our department’s curriculum for teaching music literacy, will also continue in 7th grade General Music as well.

Course Goals: “Students will…”
Apply mathematical concepts of fractions to rhythmic recognition and performance.
Recognize and perform simple musical rhythms on varied instruments.
Learn/review the pitches and interval patterns of major and minor scales
Compose short works for varied instruments & voice
Compose, as a class, modern songs using cutting-edge computer technology
Learn and identify the 12 Bar Blues progression

Read, write, & decode rhythmic and melodic notation with Conversational Solfege
