Course Description:

 

This course uses the text titled Mathematics.  This course is taught with real life examples that will relate to real world situations and show the practical value of mathematics.  We will cover a variety of topics including integers, decimals and fractions, and dividing with one and two digit divisors. 

 

Class Expectations:

 

Behavior:

 

1)    Only one person speaks at a time

a.     Give respect to the speaker by actively listening

2)    Raise your hand before speaking and wait patiently to be called upon

 

 

What to bring to class:

1)    Your textbook

2)    Your notebook or binder for note taking

3)    Workbook

4)    Folder

5)    Calculator (3rd trimester)

 

In Class:

 

1)    Upon arriving:

a.     Take out and be ready to go over the homework

b.     Be prepared to ask any questions and discuss the assigned problems

2)    After going over homework:

a.     Be prepared to take notes

b.     Have textbook ready for examples, individual work or group work

c.     Be prepared to go to the board

d.     Be prepared to share with the class

3)    Upon departure:

a.     Pick up any papers on the floor and throw them away

b.     Push in your chairs before leaving

 

 

 

 

Homework Policy:

            Homework will be assigned on days of lessons.  You are expected to do your homework.  Failure to do your homework will lower your chance of performing well on tests and quizzes.  I will check homework to see if it is completed and that proper work is shown for problems.

 

Extra Help Policy:

            I am available for extra help, but you must let me know as soon as possible when you have questions - do not wait until the last minute.  You must come to extra help with questions that you have; it is not to be used as a ÔreviewÕ session.  Also, extra help is a privilege extended to students who are attentive, proactive, and maximize their class time.  Extra help will not be offered to students who do not utilize class time effectively.

 

Quizzes:

            Quizzes will be announced, but be prepared for an occasional ÒpopÓ quiz!

 

Tests:

            Tests will be given at the end of each chapter.  All tests will be announced ahead of time. 

 

Projects:

            Throughout the year additional individual or group projects/activities may be assigned. 

 

Grading:

Although you do not earn ÔgradesÕ in 5th grade your comments will reflect upon your preparedness, behavior, and performance in class.
